Obituary of Roberta "Bertie" Sheppard

Bertie peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 77 years of age.

Beloved wife of late Lee Sheppard. Loving mother of Matthew (Melanie) Sheppard, Krista Sheppard (Darryl Calarco), Donna (Garry Landl), Kathy (late Marvin Janse) and Lynn (Rick Martindale). Proud Nanny of Cole, Eamon; Sophya, Eavan, Zane; Michael, Sarah, Jenna; Chris, Greg; Lee, Jason, Steven and Scott. Cherished Great Nanny of Jackson, Levi, Abigail, Victoria, Colton, Taylor, Mac, Jaime and Matteo. Dear daughter of late Robert and late Phyllis Wixson.

Roberta can be described as both lion and lamb. She was a woman of remarkable strength and courage, fiercely protective of those she loved. She was also the gentlest and kindest of souls, ready to sacrifice whenever needed by her family. Bertie, aka Nanny, will be lovingly remembered for her loyalty as a friend and her devotion as a caregiver to her parents, husband, children and many of her grandchildren. She was a regular at hockey games, dance recitals and she never missed a birthday celebration. Bertie and Lee spent their time boating, ballroom dancing and taking long drives.

Roberta battled melanoma ten years ago and fought bravely, against the odds, for two years against sarcoma. Her family wishes to thank Dr. Salawu and the team at Mount Sinai for the excellent care and kindness given to Roberta.

Memorial visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m.

In Bertie's memory, donations may be made to Mount Sinai Hospital (Sinai Health Foundation).
