Obituary of Marjorie Brewster
Marjorie Brewster, wife of the late Kenneth Brewster (2005), passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre on Friday, October 25th, 2024, in her 95th year (Marjorie's family would like to apologize for letting people know that she was not 29 as she would often tell anyone brave enough to ask).
Marjorie, affectionately known as the Queen by her family, will be dearly missed. She leaves behind a large and loving family, survived by her daughters Mary (Jerry) Maclean, Ann (Wayne) Spalding, Karen (John) Smith, and Patricia King, as well as her 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Marjorie's life was marked by the tragic loss of her daughter Linda at age 5 and Jimmy at age 9. Marjorie took this loss and dedicated her life to volunteering at the POGO clinic at Southlake Regional Health Centre to help bring a bit of joy to 'her kids' (patients) by always providing them with a laugh and a toy before appointments. Her goal was always to give them something to look forward to rather than dread, and she supported families using her experiences to help make them feel seen and understood. She volunteered for over 30 years until COVID and her body bade her to stop, although the thoughts of her kids and their families were never far from her mind.
In a 2014 interview, Marjorie stated, "I've had a wonderful life; I have no regrets. I had a marvelous childhood where I never wanted for a thing. I had a father who absolutely couldn't do enough for you. I had a wonderful marriage and a wonderful life. I am happy." Marjorie will join her cherished husband and kids, Jimmy, Linda, and Wendy, in the next life and wait to welcome the rest of her family, likely with a dirty joke or two.
A memorial visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m.
Just as Marjorie turned Linda and Jimmy's loss into purpose, the family asks that readers continue this legacy by donating to the cause that meant so much to her, the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) clinic at Southlake Regional Health Centre in lieu of flowers.
