Obituary of Valerie Swaisland

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Valerie Swaisland. Valerie passed away two days after her 70th birthday on February 17th, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. 

Valerie was born to George and Margery Gosling on February 15th, 1954.  A nurse by training, she spent almost four decades caring for elderly patients in nursing homes and taught in the Personal Support Worker course at Seneca College. Her favourite place was at the cottage surrounded by loved ones, wildlife, and yummy food.

Valerie was a devoted mother to her three children: Jackie (Manish), Kim (Nathan), and Mark (Lindsey), a cherished grandmother to her eight grandchildren: Ellie, Luke, Elijah, Abhigail, Hudson, Caleb, Jude and Owen, and a loving sibling to her sisters: Gretchen (Dick) and Susan (Howard) and brother Rick. She also leaves behind two well-loved golden retrievers. Valerie was predeceased by her husband, Bill Fitzgerald.

A funeral service to celebrate Valerie's life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 12935 Keele St., King City on Friday, February 23rd, at 4:00pm.  

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Toronto’s Renascent House or the Canadian Cancer Society.
