We are very sorry for your loss Marion. My memory of Jim will always be the way he would have a joke to tell Sheila and myself when we came to your house and how he always liked to call us the Stokes sisters. Take care of yourself Marion. Wayne & Helen Atkinson.

My father in law always made me feel an important part of the family. My relationship with him extended over 48 years, as I was 16 years old when I started coming to the farm as Mike's girlfriend. Jim and my relationship matured, deepened and widened over time with each stage of life Michael and I grew into. I felt welcomed as a teenager, pride as a daughter in law, cared for as a mother of his grandchildren and trusted as his senior years required that I watch out for him in return with my nursing knowledge. The attribute I most fondly admired of him, of which there were many, was his ability to calmly take things in his stride and to even find the lighter side of life with a joke or two. He loved his family, "worshipped" his wife Marion, was excited to see his grandchildren develop into wonderful young adults, had a deep appreciation for farming, worked hard and long, was a loyal friend and son to his own parents and tried to make a difference in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was deeply proud of his children Michael and Kelly and unconditionally loved them for each of their unique qualities. I know he felt that of both Gord and I as well. They often say that the "mother" is the glue of a family but in this case my father in law shared that "crown" with my mother in law. Jim had a tradition of saying the blessing at family gatherings; an Irish Blessing, which I will share with you. I do believe this blessing connected with Jim through the elements of farming, the sun, the rain, the growing crop fields he planted and his Irish heritage. Yes Jim, we will see you again and we will count on you to welcome us into your peaceful existence, when our time comes. Love always your "daughter" in-law, Kathy.
An Irish Blessing:
"May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand."

Thank you Jim, for all the happy memories - visiting the farm as a kid ; the best baby potatoes and corn I ever ate. Through the years although I moved away, you always welcomed me back and drove me about and showed me great hospitality. You offered your support in times of my loss and your phone calls, advice and humour always such a joy in my life. I will miss you. Rest in peace dear cousin.
Marion & family, my heart and prayers are with you.
Love always, Marylyn
